Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Assignment Behavior Styles Life Styles Inventory (LSI): Self Description ââ¬Å"The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.â⬠Dwight D. Eisenhower Introduction: Thinking and Behavior The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) identifies the essential thoughts and stimulus that guide individuals behavior. Often referred to as personal styles, management styles and leadership styles, these signify the essence of an individuals effectiveness. The quality of my thinking and behavior contributes greatly to my work performance. Fortunately, I have the power to change ineffective thinking and behavior, the kind that can paralyze an individuals effectiveness. But first I need to know if what Iââ¬â¢m doing now is supporting from quality performance. The scoring reveals where I have talent, where I can grow, and where I may be able to develop even stronger skills by simply shifting behaviors that could be holding me back (limiting style). Personal Thinking Styles: Based on the Life Styles Inventory results, my primary personal thinking style is self-actualization. Self-actualization in life is very important to make sure you are pleased with your inner self and behaviors. This goes back to morals and how you were raised. Self-actualization allows me to always be pleased and happy with the decisions I make in life. As a professional, making decisions that I will be happy with is essential. You may not always be pleased with decisions that others make, but I believe itââ¬â¢s important to please self when it involves making personal decisions. My back-up style is achievement. Achievement is setting goals at work and in my personal life. You must be determined, focused, goal-oriented and dedicated to talks given. For example, pursuing a Masterââ¬â¢s degree is a personal goal Iââ¬â¢m striving to accomplish for self-satisfaction, not for others satisfaction. The style that I think might be working against me to reduce your effectiveness is the perfectionist style. IT can be limiting because nothing is perfect and you have to have a backup plan in case obstacles occur. Being a perfectionist can waste time and money when it comes to the workplace. In some cases perfection is needed. When pharmacists prescribe medication to patients they need to strive to provide the perfect medication for the problem because if they donââ¬â¢t things could go wrong with the patient. There are times where perfection is needed and others when youââ¬â¢re just wasting precious money and time. Impact On Management Style: With the high achieving style being the second high rated style on my inventory list, it has a major impact on my management style. A high achievement style indicates I set goals and is enthusiastic about working towards difficult but realistic goals. In pursuit of goals and achieving high quality results, Iââ¬â¢m likely to follow a well-developed plan that has been considered in depth. I carefully examine my options before deciding on a plan of action. To adequately isolate these behaviors or ways of thinking and emphasize strengths, it is essential to understand their impact on quality of performance. As a manager I will have a positive effect on my employees. Being that the poser style is on the bottom of my totem pole, I believe that the humanistic and encouraging style will set well with the employees and contribute to a personââ¬â¢s level of satisfaction proficiency at accomplishing tasks. Having the ability to work effectively with people develop healthy relationships is a important in management. Genesis of Personal Styles Since Iââ¬â¢m able to remember, I was taught to be your own person. I was taught to always be the leader and not the follower when it comes to personal decisions. Itââ¬â¢s very important to not always want to be a leader and never want to follow in the workplace. My mother and father instilled in me to set goals and achieve those goals no matter how long it took to accomplish what you have set for yourself. As a child in the schooldays, I remember bringing home all the books that I had (Math, Science, Language, etc.). If I didnââ¬â¢t have homework in a subject, I had to read the next chapter for the next day. I thank my parents for instilling in me how important knowledge is. I continue to keep that with me after graduating from high school, second year college, four year college and now striving for my Masterââ¬â¢s. I can truly say that continuing my education is a major part of my life. Because of my parents teaching, Iââ¬â¢m good. Being in the church was another gre at thing that happened to me. A personââ¬â¢s environment can have a major impact on their life. Conclusion and Reflection The underlying thoughts and motivations that guide an individualââ¬â¢s behavior, that is personal styles, management styles and leadership styles, represent the essence of an individuals effectiveness. Research has shown that the styles measured by the LSI are related to a number of indicators of effectiveness and success, including leadership effectiveness, management effectiveness, problem solving effectiveness, quality of interpersonal relations, organizational level, individual health and well being, and organizational culture. I can use what I learn to initiate positive changes in how I think and act according to the changes that increase my personal and professional effectiveness. The LSI can be used to create change through: (1) identifying the unique thinking patterns that characterize your current behavior (2) understanding which of your thinking patterns are effective, which arenââ¬â¢t and why (3) deciding which thinking and behavior patterns you want to change (4) defining optimal ways of thinking and approaching your work, such as, setting targeted improvement goals and creating a precise approach to convey on change.

Is Odysseus An Epic Hero? à à à à à Is Odysseus, the main character of Homerââ¬â¢s The Odyssey, really an epic hero? An epic hero embodies several heroic traits such as; having superior or super-human strength; being intellectual and courageous; and being a strong and responsible leader. An epic hero struggles and is overwhelmed with difficulties. An epic hero is on a quest of self discovery, war or some sort of goal. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is on a quest to return home to Ithaca after ten years of war in Troy. Odysseus, during his quest, is forced to venture through a merciless Cyclops, angered Gods, deeply obstinate Goddesses, the underworld, and determined suitors that are after his wife Penelope. Odysseus surmounts over these obstacles and returns home safely with courage, intelligence, superior strength, brave leadership, and also performs brave deeds. à à à à à In his quest, Odysseus uses his superior and super human strength to overcome the suitors. In The Odyssey, Penelope holds a contest for all the suitors. She declares that she will marry the one who can string and shoot Odysseusââ¬â¢s bow through all the twelve axes. None of the suitors were able to bend the bow and string it. Odysseus disguised as a beggar then asks if he can try the bow. ââ¬Å"Meantime wise Odysseus, when he handled the great bow and scanned it closely, ââ¬â even as one well-skilled to play the lyre and sing stretches with ease round its new peg a string, securing at each end the twisted sheep-gut; so without effort did Odysseus string the mighty bow. Odysseus was with Circe for one year and with Calypso for seven years. This makes Odysseus seem less of an epic hero, but if you consider the other facts about him you should think otherwise. Odysseus was superior in strength for being the only person to be able to bend and string his bow. Odysseus was intelligent and courageous by standing up to Polyphemus. Odysseus was a responsible and strong leader by forcing his men under the influence to get on the ship and continue their journey home. Therefore, I can conclude that Odysseus is truly an epic hero. Education is an important factor in our lives, but the past, present, and future of education is changing. And change it will until our education system is the best in the world. In the past, Education in America was plain and simple. We've all heard the stories of how our ancestors used to have to walk to school 5 miles in the snow in the heat of summer. These shameless exagerations were meant for us to think that school back in the "good ole days" was very dificult and surpassed the level of difficulty students today have. In reality, school, although most early schools were combonation classes with a variety of age groups as students. Almost each individual was given an equal amount of personal help from the teacher. Also, life wasn't as complecated as they are now. One teacher would teach the whole class a limeted variety of subjects such as arithmatic and english. Education was just eaiser when it first became popular. Nowadays, in the present, school not only is a place to learn, it's a place to stress out. As I walk through the halls all students seem to have that academic nervousness. If you listen to the conversations that go on in the hall it's always, "Ohh my gosh, Becky! I'm going to have a fat cow! I think I'm getting a B in my chemistry class, and that is going to ruin my record." Pressure is constantly put upon students to get "straight A's" It is very rare when a student will not shoot for an A on a quiz. It's human nature to succeed, but with the pressure put on us by the teachers, parents, peers, and colleges, it's a heavy load to handle. Now, scientists recently did an expiriment. They placed a child in a room with some brand new toys. They left him there for a couple of hours and he did not play with them. The scientists puzzeled took the boy aside and asked him why he did not play with the toys. The boy replied that he did not want to break them. Followers and Leaders of Animal Farm
Animals on Manor Farm over throw their mean and evil rulers who have overworked and mistreated them. Once the animals get control over the farm they set up slogans and rules the animals must follow in order to have equality and justice on the new farm.The farm is mainly ran by the pigs, who are considered the most intelligent, and also the two main ruler pigs named Snowball and Napoleon. Napoleon uses dogs he took away as pups and trained them to follow his words and also uses them to chase Snowball off the farm. Now Napoleon has complete control over the farm along with the other pigs and the dogs.Napoleonââ¬â¢s number one pig who helps him run the farm the way he likes is named Squealer. Squealer is very persuasive and can manipulate any animal he needs to. The author of the book Animal Farm is named George Orwell and he wrote this story to have a allegorical representation of the Russian Revolution. Orwell shows in this piece of writing that both leaders and followers in a soci ety can act in ways that destroy certain rights such as freedom and equality. One of the followers name is Boxer and this horse believes that everything the pigs say about napoleon is always right.Overall, Napoleonââ¬â¢s right hand pig, Squealer, uses persuasive wording and powerful speeches to manipulate other animals on the farm that Napoleon is always right. In Animal Farm one of the leaders name is Squealer and he is a pig who is very persuasive.The text states, ââ¬Å"The others said of Squealer that he could turn black into white. â⬠(pg:16) When George Orwell describes Squealer as being able to ââ¬Å"turn black into whiteâ⬠, he is in fact referring to Squealer's persuasive skill. In other words, Squealer has enough persuasive talent to be able to convince the animals in Animal Farm that black is white or vice-versa.Squealer uses his wonderful way of talking persuasively towards the other animals on the farm. When Squealer does this he is being manipulative words to make the animals think what he wants them to.This effects the equality on the farm because the animals may not realize that they are being cheated out of their rights they originally fought for when they ran the original farm hands off the farm. Squealerââ¬â¢s persuasion is powerful because he influences the animals into thinking only positive ideas about Napoleon. This shows that Squealer is very manipulative and takes advantage of his power of manipulation.Squealer keeps his power throughout the novel is by staying as an important aspect to Napoleon. Napoleon uses Squealer to go out and persuade the animals on the farm that the pigs arenââ¬â¢t doing anything wrong or against the rules. This is very relevant to the story because if Napoleon didnââ¬â¢t have Squealer to help him run the farm than Napoleon wouldnââ¬â¢t have too many supporters and without his supporters he wouldnââ¬â¢t have any power. In Animal Farm, Orwell chose the characteristics of the animals t o allegorically represent people or groups from the Russian Revolution.Napoleon plays Stalin who was a cruel ruler who used military tactics to enforce his rules. This overall represents how in Animal Farm Orwell used all of the characters to have an allegorical meaning. Squealer is a representation of the Propaganda Department, and Napoleon represents the Russian Revolutions cruel leader. Squealerââ¬â¢s overall goal is to persuade all of the animals to becoming loyal to Napoleon like how the propaganda department was a way of persuading the people of the Soviet Union to become loyal to Stalin.Squealer is reaching his goal one by one and gains support every time he talks to the animals. Next, in Animal Farm one of the animals who follow Napoleon and Squealerââ¬â¢s words is a very strong and hardworking horse named Boxer. At first, things seem to be going well. He's a hard worker, making ââ¬Å"I will work harderâ⬠into his personal motto (ch-3). He's a brave fighter, and the narrator tells us that, during the Battle of the Cowshed, ââ¬Å"the most terrifying spectacle of all was Boxer, rearing up on his hind legs and striking out with his great iron-shod hoofs like a stallionâ⬠(ch-4).But it's not enough to keep him safe. At the beginning of the novel, Old Major warns Boxer that he's disposable: ââ¬Å"the very day that those great muscles of yours lose their power, Jones will send you to the knacker, who will cut your throat and boil you down for the fox-houndsâ⬠(ch-1). Boxer can see thatââ¬âbut once Jones is forced off the farm, Boxer thinks the threat is gone. He's just not smart enough to see that he's got a whole new species to worry about. Boxer worries about the farm, but he's not smart enough to figure things out on his own.Instead of thinking for himself, he decides to be loyal no matter whatââ¬âto follow the Party (as in, Communist Party) line. Like, after Snowball is sent into exile, Boxer tries to think things over for himself, but all he can come up with is, ââ¬Å"If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right,â⬠and he takes up a new personal motto: ââ¬Å"Napoleon is always rightâ⬠(ch-5). Boxer is one of the animals who is easily persuaded and this is why the pigs think of him as a powerful disciple. Boxer absorbs everything the pigs tell him.Boxer would work so hard that it would influence the other animals to want to start and work also. This is not a good thing that is happening because when they are working on different projects on the farm they are taking orders from Napoleon and if they do that than there isnââ¬â¢t equality because this means that Napoleon is of a higher authority. If Napoleon is a higher rank in the social class than there isnââ¬â¢t equality. Boxer does not realize that he is giving up his freedom and he certainly doesnââ¬â¢t know that he is causing the other animals to also.He doesnââ¬â¢t realize this because all he does is follow Napoleons rules and work as hard as he can. Boxer motivates the other animals to work harder when the animals see him trying so hard to work. Boxerââ¬â¢s behavior is not typical of the animals on Animal Farm because he doesnââ¬â¢t ever question Napoleon like some of the other followers on the farm have. Also Boxer is not like the other animals because even though he is a follower he influenced other animals to follow in his footsteps and work harder.This shows that because Boxer is listening to Squealer he worked harder and that influences the other animals to work but also to give away their right to freedom and equality. In Conclusion, Napoleonââ¬â¢s second in command, also known as Squealer, persuades the animals on Animal Farm into thinking he is a wonderful leader. One of Squealerââ¬â¢s followers is a very work dedicated horse named Boxer. The author of this story is name Orwell and his purpose of writing this piece was to have the allegorical purpose of symbolism of the Russian R evolution.Orwell may have written this as a warning to the readers about how human behavior is when they get to much power. When someone gets too much power it goes to their head and they canââ¬â¢t function like they use to and may make bad decisions. From this novel the reader has learned that society is always adjusting itself. Not every situation is perfect nor can one expect perfection. However, the reader also learned that people have morals by which they hold themselves. Any leader who pushes his morals upon a group does not deserve power.

Pride in Antigone
Swallow Your Pride He rushed to the vault to free Antigone of the imprisonment he placed upon her himself, little did Creon know, it was too late. With a swing of the door, death looked upon his face. There lay Antigone, sulking in her own bereavement, she hung herself. To Creonââ¬â¢s dismay, he was forced to come to the reality that he let his own selfish egotism destroy not only his life, but the lives of many others. Even with warning, this man still went on with his nose in the air doubting anyoneââ¬â¢s reasoning but his own, he believed what he says was best so what he decided asking went, in reality, his cognitive thinking only lead to tragedy.The story Antigone by Sophocles, exemplifies the moral that human pride can be vicious and destructive. Chiefly, Haimon, Creonââ¬â¢s son, has a strong part in upholding this lesson. Haimon claims, ââ¬Å"It is wrong, if I am wrong. But I am young, and right. â⬠(Line 10, pg. 794) In this part of the story, he is quarreling w ith his father about his relationship he hopes to have with Antigone who Creon does not particularly like. Haimon has pride through his young age, he believes with his youth, all things are possible. Also, Haimon says, ââ¬Å"There is no threat in speaking to emptinessâ⬠(Line 126,pg. 94) His pride is pushing through the thought that his fatherââ¬â¢s words mean nothing to him, Hamion is relenting towards his father because he believes he is right and will never back down. Comparatively, Antigone is conceited in her own way as well. Although she wants a relationship with Haimon, against all odds and without any prohibitions, she wants to bury her brother more than anything. In ancient Greece where the story takes place, it is said that according to the Gods, if a relative does not wash and bury the dead body, the soul will never be at rest.Antigone says, ââ¬Å"I should have praise and honor for what I have doneâ⬠(Line 113,pg. 784) She believes at any and all costs she i s right, her pride ends up coming in between her own life. When Creon threatens to kill her, Ismene, her sister, asks her if she can help but she insists, ââ¬Å"You would not help me, and I will not have you help me. â⬠(Line 149, pg. 785) Creon ends up locking Antigone in a vault and letting the Gods decide her fate where she ends up hanging herself out of misery. Aside from everyone else is Creon, King of the land only by blood line. He insists that Antigoneââ¬â¢s brother does not deserve a proper burial.To Creon, an act such as this would be dishonorable to the Gods. He exclaims, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll string you up aliveâ⬠, (Line 138, pg. 780), to Antigone while arguing. Creon has the type of pride that comes with power, he is head strong and believes his word is law and no one is above it. ââ¬Å"Who is the man here, she or I, if this crime goes unpunished? â⬠(Line 95, pg. 784) Creon says to exemplify that he is just in the situation. The King ends up causing a t ragedy. After Antigone kills herself, his son, Haimon, attempts to kill him but fails. Haimon ends up stabbing him own self to death.Creonââ¬â¢s wife found out and as he carried his sonââ¬â¢s dead body to her, he came home only to find that she too had took her own life. Pride can be deceitful, distrustful but most importantly, unforgettable. In todayââ¬â¢s society, many leaders are just like the characters of Antigone, only out to get what they want. Power hungry people roam the world every day, searching for something to claim as their own and to make right by their standards. Soon enough, those people will realize that with smugness comes corruption. One day, they will have to swallow their pride and take ahold of whatââ¬â¢s truly just. Pride in Antigone Swallow Your Pride He rushed to the vault to free Antigone of the imprisonment he placed upon her himself, little did Creon know, it was too late. With a swing of the door, death looked upon his face. There lay Antigone, sulking in her own bereavement, she hung herself. To Creonââ¬â¢s dismay, he was forced to come to the reality that he let his own selfish egotism destroy not only his life, but the lives of many others. Even with warning, this man still went on with his nose in the air doubting anyoneââ¬â¢s reasoning but his own, he believed what he says was best so what he decided asking went, in reality, his cognitive thinking only lead to tragedy.The story Antigone by Sophocles, exemplifies the moral that human pride can be vicious and destructive. Chiefly, Haimon, Creonââ¬â¢s son, has a strong part in upholding this lesson. Haimon claims, ââ¬Å"It is wrong, if I am wrong. But I am young, and right. â⬠(Line 10, pg. 794) In this part of the story, he is quarreling w ith his father about his relationship he hopes to have with Antigone who Creon does not particularly like. Haimon has pride through his young age, he believes with his youth, all things are possible. Also, Haimon says, ââ¬Å"There is no threat in speaking to emptinessâ⬠(Line 126,pg. 94) His pride is pushing through the thought that his fatherââ¬â¢s words mean nothing to him, Hamion is relenting towards his father because he believes he is right and will never back down. Comparatively, Antigone is conceited in her own way as well. Although she wants a relationship with Haimon, against all odds and without any prohibitions, she wants to bury her brother more than anything. In ancient Greece where the story takes place, it is said that according to the Gods, if a relative does not wash and bury the dead body, the soul will never be at rest.Antigone says, ââ¬Å"I should have praise and honor for what I have doneâ⬠(Line 113,pg. 784) She believes at any and all costs she i s right, her pride ends up coming in between her own life. When Creon threatens to kill her, Ismene, her sister, asks her if she can help but she insists, ââ¬Å"You would not help me, and I will not have you help me. â⬠(Line 149, pg. 785) Creon ends up locking Antigone in a vault and letting the Gods decide her fate where she ends up hanging herself out of misery. Aside from everyone else is Creon, King of the land only by blood line. He insists that Antigoneââ¬â¢s brother does not deserve a proper burial.To Creon, an act such as this would be dishonorable to the Gods. He exclaims, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll string you up aliveâ⬠, (Line 138, pg. 780), to Antigone while arguing. Creon has the type of pride that comes with power, he is head strong and believes his word is law and no one is above it. ââ¬Å"Who is the man here, she or I, if this crime goes unpunished? â⬠(Line 95, pg. 784) Creon says to exemplify that he is just in the situation. The King ends up causing a t ragedy. After Antigone kills herself, his son, Haimon, attempts to kill him but fails. Haimon ends up stabbing him own self to death.Creonââ¬â¢s wife found out and as he carried his sonââ¬â¢s dead body to her, he came home only to find that she too had took her own life. Pride can be deceitful, distrustful but most importantly, unforgettable. In todayââ¬â¢s society, many leaders are just like the characters of Antigone, only out to get what they want. From this point, she moves on to discuss why convicted, imprisoned rapists are the best candidates for her research because they are the most likely to disprove her theory. This section closes with her sampling strategy for choosing candidates for the research study. As she talks about her personal experience within the prisons, Scully reveals the conditions she found within, how that affects the prisoners on a psychological level and how that made her feel while she was visiting.
